Coaching has many purposes. We know that it is a key leadership style, one that carries influence, increases productivity, motivates and engages people in a powerful way. But what about coaching applied to helping people discover their purpose and become clear on their calling?
Through the 90s a plethora of personality tests emerged which helped people to categorise themselves and begin to understand their strengths and differences. These tests have helped and continue to help individuals and teams to collaborate better, to understand their strengths and to play to them. But just as neuroscience is discovering more and more the way our mind works and integrates with our will, our personality and spirit is far more complex than these tests would ever be able to show us. This confirms the concept that God created each and every individual with their very own unique, identity and purpose, crafted by Him for His glory. A person’s purpose is to become a unique reflection of Him that only they can, and to carry out their very own assignments that perfectly suits their own heart and desire, strengths and gifting.
‘Destiny coaching’ (as we from Destiny Coaching Ministries define it), is a coaching style and set of tools that enable people to engage with, to encounter and experience their unique identity and purpose as created by God.
Clarity of Call
Destiny coaching firstly helps people find clarity of identity and call. Helping people to clarify their identity is a vital part of destiny coaching, as it is only when they encounter and experience their true identity as heaven sees them that they are ready to embrace their call. Destiny coaching enables this to become clear by taking a person to key experiences in the past, and by bringing them into fresh encounters with God to speak to them and show them who He sees them to be. This part of Destiny Coaching is powerful, as it provides a solid foundation for people to operate from. It stops them seeing their destiny as simply achieving things, having a ministry or changing the world. It shifts this perspective to seeing how they personally and uniquely reflect the nature of God and what impact simply being themselves has on the earth.
The second part of coaching clarity of calling is to coach a person to be able to clearly and confidently articulate different aspects of their call. This involves exploring and clarifying what it is they are called to do, the key life messages they are called to give, who they are called to and in what way they are called to impact these people.
The Destiny coaching tools we use to help with this involve exploring many areas of a person’s unique grace and authority, their testimony, experiences, dreams and desires alongside many other aspects of their lives.
The very core of Destiny Coaching helps people to get connected with their hearts and spirit, so that calling is discovered through what truly resonates with the person. It is usually an emotional process as we see people get in touch with deep passions on their heart and as we as destiny coaches give them permission to articulate how they most want t change the world. Sometimes these ideas seem crazy to them, but destiny coaching provides a space where people are free to express the seemingly crazy and impossible. This unlocks great calling and destiny!
Activating Destiny
As a destiny coaches once we have gone through a process of unlocking latent desires and uncovering calling the next step is to help coachees become activated. As we coach from a kingdom perspective, we bring a balanced approach to setting goals and starting new ventures. For example, we bring in the elements of understanding the seasonal nature of walking into your calling from a scriptural point of view. We provide a coaching tool ( a calling timeline) to help coachees plot their progress and time in life towards their call, which is based on studies of many biblical characters and scriptural timelines. We also provide tools to help coachees understand their readiness, holistically looking at their whole life and spiritual journey alongside specifics in line with their call.
The very nature of coaching lends itself perfectly to helping people to understand and become more confident to step further into their destiny. It empowers and facilitates a very personal and entirely unique journey, rather than teaching someone a formula or set pathway.
The result of each and every person I have coached to understand their identity and destiny has been amazing. The results have included increased confidence, focus, passion and motivation. As the journey includes helping them to hear directly from God for themselves through encounter the results have been significant spiritual growth and personal growth. Many people hear from God personally for the first time. What better way can we encourage, and get The Body ready in this day than to give then the beautiful gift and confidence of knowing who they really are and the call God has for them?
